St. Michaels, Maryland Vacation: Spring Travel to Talbot County, Maryland

Visit the Chesapeake Bay watershed for a warm introduction to summer before the tourist season begins. Saint Michaels, Maryland, is a quaint waterfront town filled with boutiques, gourmet seafood restaurants and inns.

On the East Coast, St. Michaels is a convenient drive from points both north and south. One or two-way car rentals are available locally from Enterprise Rental Car and Thrifty Car Rental. Car rental quotes can be obtained from other companies as well, so check prices in advance of travel.

Maryland Motels

Lodging on Maryland’s Eastern Shore is available in a variety of hotels, motels, Maryland inns, and luxury waterfront homes. Perfectly steamed Maryland blue crabs can be found at Big Al’s Seafood, and a night out is always waiting at Character’s or Carpenter Street Saloon.

Shopping

Privately owned boutiques are the hallmark of St. Michaels shopping. Personal service, eclectic collections, and local wares abound. Most of the shopping can be done on foot via Talbot Street, so leave the car and wander around before lunch or dinner. The Scented Garden and Chesapeake Trading are two favorites.

Boating

Boat rentals can be had for either power, sail or kayak explorations. Leave the driving to a professional, and take a water tour or hire a charter captain for sightseeing or fishing. Miles River and San Domingo Creek offer plenty of both.

Museums

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum hosts a variety of exhibits that showcase the history of boating and fishing industries in the community, as well as original lighthouses.

Day Spas

Tired tourists can find refuge through a growing number of luxury day spas. An Aveda spa is offered to both guests and non-guests at the Five Gables Inn. A massage, facial, pedicure or women’s overnight pajama party can be enjoyed at the St. Michaels Harbor Inn and Marina.

Infamous Residents

While no official tours are available, St. Michaels is home to some fairly infamous residents. Both Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney have homes there, creating a no-fly zone which many celebrities find appealing. Julia Roberts, Oprah Winfrey and Michael Jackson have all hunted houses in St. Michaels.
