The directions for this costume will be broken into two different articles. The first will contain the directions for the dress, crown and wand. These directions can be used for a fairy, witch or queen by just changing out the colors a bit. The second article will teach you how to draw by gridding and walk you through transferring the playing card onto a core board.

- Foam core board-2 large sheets (use one cut in half for a small child)
- 1 yard of rope
- Aluminum foil or gold paint
- Large heart shaped red fake gems
- Markers or paint
- A deck of cards or picture of the Queen of Hearts
- Dowel 12-16” long
- Red felt- one sheet
- Metallic gift back confetti -gold
- Hot Glue

This part is the easiest. Use the turtleneck for the top. Take the two yards of fabric and sew it together at the short length. Measure the height of the child from floor to waist. Add 6 inches. Now cut so your fabric is a big circle that is the width of your child’s measurement. You will be sewing the top of the skirt with a fold over of fabric. Insert the elastic and connect the elastic ends. Finish off. Now hem to a safe length to avoid tripping.
Measure your child’s head. This is not easy because you are measuring one spot but the crown will cover an expanse of the head. Here’s a trick you can use. Do you have a restaurant or fast food establishment that hands out crowns to the children? Use that for a template or use it for the crown and just paint or cover it with foil. If you are making your own design, cut two pieces from the poster board using your template as a guide. Glue the two pieces together flush for added strength. Cut in the design you prefer. Paint or cover with foil. Add gems by hot gluing them into place.
Paint the dowel gold. Cut two hearts approx. 4” in height and width from the felt. Make them smaller (3 inches) if you are using a 12-inch dowel). Glue the two hearts together about halfway around the top edges. Once dry take the plastic bag or the felt scrap and stuff the heart. Apply glue to both pieces on the inner edges. Place the dowel in the bottom center and squeeze the two sides together. Hot Glue piece of the metallic confetti around the edges of the heart
