Cool Summer Vacations in Seattle: More Than the Weather is Sublime in This Fabulous Seaport City

While Seattle attracts tourists all year around, it is truly a vacationers paradise during the summer months when many other vacation destinations are reaching triple digit weather.

Space Needle: Seattle’s Premier Attraction

After a breathtaking ride in the Space Needle’s glass enclosed elevator visitors view the fabulous Seattle skyline from 500 ft. up while dining in the Space Needle’s Sky City Restaurant. Diners enjoy snow capped Mt. Rainier in the distance as well as the Olympic and Cascade Mountains and Puget Sound as the restaurant turns 360 degrees.

Higher on the needle, the 550 ft. high Observation Deck provides state-of-the-art Swarovski telescopes for zooming in on favorite sights and detailed data about the city, the mountains, the waterways of Puget Sound and all the activities of the region.

Down on the ground the Seattle Center IMAX theater offers world class shows, the convention center is always buzzing with events and cultural and theatrical activities abound.

Fish Throwing by the Wharf

A signature Seattle ritual is fish throwing at the historic, open air Pikes Place Market. While not for everyone, visitors crowd in to see experienced seafood handlers, also known locally as fishmongers, throw everything from salmon to tuna or halibut while processing the fish. A few bold visitors try fish throwing themselves, only to find it is harder than it looks.

The freshest seafood in the world can be found at restaurants along Seattle’s wharf and many markets and vendors offer fine quality local crafts.

Cargo and Cruise Ships, Canoes and Racing Boats

Seattle is one of the West Coast’s leading port cities and a major center for cruise lines. Ships flying the flags of many nations dock in it’s busy harbor and fascinating tours aboard are often available.

On a smaller scale water sports lovers enjoy the local Center for Wooden Boats where master craftsmen construct traditional Haida Canoes by hand. Boats that thrill with their speed and power can be enjoyed at The Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum in nearby Kent, Wa.

Seattle Beckons Sports Fans

Sports seem to be in Seattle’s blood and the city caters to sports fans. Stadiums and arenas are ultra modern, parking or public transit is top-notch and there are accommodations for every budget.

Enthusiasts of participatory sports like golf, tennis, skating or softball find numerous fields and courts throughout the city of Seattle and there are miles of hiking trails within the city parks and preserves.

Elephants, Grizzly’s and Tarantula’s

Exotic animals such as elephants, hippos and giraffes roam Seattle’s vast Woodland Park Zoo. Visitors get close-up views of Grizzly Bears, jaguars, giraffes, orangutans, monkeys and hundreds more unusual animals. A day at this world class zoo is a must when visiting Seattle.

On a smaller scale, the unique Seattle Bug Safari is a live bug zoo that features creatures such as a 12” tarantula and offers insect petting for those wanting a hand-on experience.

Diverse Seattle has Something for Everyone

Seattle shows another face after dark, coming alive with chic nightclubs, bars and comedy clubs which entertain until the wee hours. Restaurants, theaters and concert halls round out the nightly offerings and activities.

Honeymooners, families and retirees alike find Seattle a great vacation destination. With its great summer weather, romantic rides on Puget Sound, gourmet meals to suit the most discriminating taste, dozens of family excursions and unrivaled cultural events, Seattle, the jewel of the Northwest consistently surpasses expectations.
